MSP: State trooper arrested for domestic violence incident

BOSTON — A sworn-in member of the Massachusetts State Police Department has been arrested following an investigation into a prior domestic violence incident.

State police arrested 27-year-old Jordan Cavaco of Brockton on Wednesday on charges of domestic assault and battery, strangulation, and kidnapping.

Police say the incident happened on May 28, 2021, while Cavaco was driving with his girlfriend. The two were arguing when he allegedly pulled off I-93 near Gallivan Boulevard, then choked her and punched her repeatedly. Cavaco reportedly wouldn’t let her get out of the car and drove her back to his apartment.

Cavaco was arrested on Wednesday morning and taken to the South Boston Barracks where he was booked. He was arraigned Wednesday where he was ordered held on $2,500 bail, according to Suffolk County DA Rachael Rollins. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim and the city of Fall River, except to visit his attorney. He will also be under GPS surveillance within 24 hours of posting bail.

State police say they learned of the allegations last week when the victim filed a report with a local police department.

He was immediately relieved of duty and an Internal Affairs investigation has been opened. Police say a hearing will be held to address his employment status. He has been suspended without pay while that is ongoing.

Cavaco graduated from the State Police Academy in 2020 and was most recently assigned to the Framingham Barracks.

He is due back in court in February.
