MoviePass targets Labor Day weekend for comeback

Cinephiles rejoice: MoviePass, the service that gained viral recognition for it’s ability to get moviegoers into theaters at a heavily discounted price, is attempting to make a comeback this Labor Day weekend.

The movie theater ticket app originally shut down in 2019 amidst financial issues.

Those that want to be among the first to enjoy the return of MoviePass must sign up for the waitlist, the company says. The waitlist will open on August 25 and will only be open for five days. The waitlist will allow users to get priority access and the ability to invite 10 friends.

Users will be able to subscribe to one of three tiers, $10, $20 and $30, that will determine the number of credits an individual will be able to put towards their monthly movie watches.

MoviePass specified that space on the waitlist is limited and once the waitlist is closed, the only way to join will be through an invite from a friend.

MoviePass will be open to all major theaters that accept U.S. credit cards.

The waitlist will open Thursday on MoviePass’ website.
