Motorcyclist dies after accident involving two cars on Route 495 in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Mass. — A man died after a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon involving two other cars on Route 495 in Salisbury, Massachusetts State Police said in a news release on Saturday.

Brian Barry, 51, of Lowell, was driving a 1998 VL1500 motorcycle on Route 495 North just before the merge with Route 95 in Salisbury, according to a preliminary investigation.

For unknown reasons, Barry pulled into the median on the left side of the road and stopped. A 62-year-old woman driving a Toyota Camry in the left lane braked when she saw Barry and thought he was entering the left lane, police said.

Behind the Toyota, a 77-year-old man was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 in the left lane. Police said he swerved left into the median to avoid the Toyota.

The driver of the Ford truck struck the motorcycle and Barry was thrown over the guardrail. Both drivers of the Toyota and Ford stopped and stayed on scene.

Barry was flown by Med Flight to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he died.

At the time of the crash, both right and left lanes of Route 495 North were closed for about 30 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation.

Salisbury and Amesbury Fire, EMS and Police departments assisted on scene.
