STURBRIDGE, Mass. — A tractor-trailer driver was arrested Monday after authorities say he plowed into a cruiser that was parked outside the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Sturbridge.
The impact of the wreck pushed the unoccupied cruiser onto a curb and into a light pole, according to Massachusetts State Police. The driver then allegedly continued over nearby shrubs before circling behind the barracks in an apparent attempt to leave the scene.
State police say troopers stopped the tractor-trailer moments later.
“During the investigation, troopers observed that the driver was unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes, and detected an odor of alcohol on his breath,” state police said in a statement.
The driver, identified as 50-year-old Timothy Dorsey of Pensacola, Florida, is facing charges of leaving the scene of property damage, operating under the influence of liquor, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
“Operating under the influence endangers everyone on our roadways. If you choose to drink, make a plan for a sober ride. One poor decision can have serious consequences,” state police added.
There were no reported injuries in the crash.
