WILMINGTON, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police are investigating a crash that left one man dead overnight.
At approximately 1:12 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to I-93 North, in Wilmington just north of Exit 38 for a crash involving a 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan, operated by a 44-year-old Lynn man, and a 2010 Harley Davidson FLH Street Glide motorcycle.
Before the accident, the Sienna was traveling north on Route 93 before it rotated and came to a stop in the second lane from the left and was facing southbound in the northbound lane.
At the same time, the motorcyclist was operating northbound, in the second lane from the left, approaching the Sienna. That was when the motorcycle operator attempted to stop, but was unable to do so and crashing into the font, left side of the Sienna.
Police say the motorcycle operator, 51-year-old Diego D. Rodriguez of Methuen, was pronounced dead on scene. The operator of the Sienna had no reported injuries.
All four lanes of Route 93 North were closed until 3:38 a.m. to accommodate the rescue response and crash investigation. The incident remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
