Jimmy Buffett shares update following hospitalization in Boston

BOSTON — Musician and businessman Jimmy Buffett is on the mend after he was recently hospitalized in Boston for the treatment of issues that “needed immediate attention.”

On Friday, Buffett announced that he had to cancel a weekend show in Charleston, South Carolina, due to undisclosed medical problems that were discovered by doctors during a check-up following a trip to the Bahamas.

“Two days ago, I was just back from a trip to the Bahamas, thawing out from the California ‘winter tour,’ and chomping at the bit to get to Charleston. I had to stop in Boston for a check-up but wound back in the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention,” Buffett said. “Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you. I also promise you, that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing.”

In an updated statement that was shared on Facebook, Buffett explained that he was headed home to get himself into the shape he needs to be in to return to the stage.

“Thank you for the outpouring of support and well wishes. I head home tomorrow for a while, and then will go for a fishing trip with old friends, along with paddling and sailing, and get myself back in good shape,” Buffett said. “Once I am in shape, we will look at the when’s and where’s of shows. I think playing is as therapeutic for me as it is for fans to listen and sing along.”

Buffett offered up no additional details on his health but added that he is “looking forward” to announcing a new date for Charleston.
