CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — An iconic music venue in Cambridge could be knocked down and replaced with a six-story hotel, documents indicate.

Sater Realty is looking to demolish the Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub at 6 Brookline Street and build back a hotel that will house a restaurant, a new music venue, and guestrooms, according to plans filed with the Cambridge Historical Commission.

The proposed plans will be discussed during a public meeting on Thursday evening.

The Middle East opened its doors in 1969 and has become a nationally recognized destination for an array of musicians.

Plans show the hotel would be about 53,000 square feet in size with 100 guest rooms, two concert stages, and a restaurant.

Demolition of the Middle East would also include the Central Convenience mini-mart, Cambridge Day reported.

The Sater family first bought the property in 2014.
