Hundreds of Santas run charity race to raise money for school sports

BOSTON — Nearly 200 people dressed as Santa ran in Boston’s annual “Santa Speedo” charity race on Saturday.

For the 20th year, runners ran through Back Bay to raise money for the Play Ball! Foundation, which helps fund sports leagues in Boston, Lawrence and Holyoke Public Schools.

The race began when a group of men ran through the crowded neighborhood in bathing suits and Santa hats.

The run has raised more than $2 million in the past 20 years.
