Happy 4/20: Boston ranked among ‘best cities for stoners’ in America

BOSTON — If you’re looking to celebrate 4/20 on Thursday, look no further than Boston. The capital of Massachusetts is among the “best cities for stoners” in America, according to a new study.

Leafly and Clever recently published a collaborative study called “We Found the Best Weed Cities in 2023,” which ranked various criteria including the legality of marijuana use, cannabis-prescribing doctors per 100,000 residents, dispensaries per 100,000 residents, the average rating of dispensaries out of 5 stars, google trends, public perception, and more.

Boston checked in as the 11th-best weed city in the United States with 3 dispensaries per 100,000 residents and an average dispensary rating of 4.4 stars out of 5, according to researchers.

The study did show that Bostonians pay $337 for one ounce of high-quality marijuana, which is $21 more than the average price among nearly all of the other cities included in the ranking.

The top five stoner cities in America were ranked as follows:

  1. Portland, Oregon
  2. Denver, Colorado
  3. Buffalo, New York
  4. Seattle, Washington
  5. Baltimore, Maryland

Hartford, Connecticut, and Providence, Rhode Island, were the other New England cities to rank inside the top 20.
