Growing calls to remove President Trump from office

BOSTON — Massachusetts lawmakers in Washington calling to invoke the 25th Amendment including Rep. Bill Keating who tweeted saying it should happen tonight.

“The 25th Amendment must be invoked by the cabinet tonight to remove president trump from office,” he tweeted.

Others from the Massachusetts delegation says it’s time for President Trump to be impeached, including Sen. Ed Markey who tweeted: “Impeach Donald Trump.”

Rep. Ayanna Pressley also sent out a Tweet saying: “Donald J. Trump should immediately be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.”

Wednesday afternoon, President Trump addressed supporters on the ellipse calling for them to march to the Capitol.

“He wanted them to go to the capitol to protest and he made vague illusions,” said Tom Whalen, a Boston University presidential historian.

Whalen said what happened Wednesday justifies calls for impeachment. “He basically told them to march on the Capitol. Although, he didn’t do violent acts it can certainly be construed he didn’t want them to hold a picnic,” said Whalen.

Whalen believes after the assault on the U.S. Capitol there may finally be some bipartisan agreement on removing President Trump from office.

“Right now you might find support even on the Republican side for saying, ‘Enough is enough,’” said Whalen.
