Gas prices are inching up again, AAA says

WESTWOOD, Mass. — One penny may not be a lot, but that matters over time for motorists filling their gas tanks and taking summer road trips.

The average gas price in Massachusetts is up one cent from last week, averaging $3.54 per gallon, and 11 cents higher than a month ago, when it was $3.43, according to AAA.

Nationally, Tuesday’s average price for gas is 3 cents higher than a month ago, at $3.54.

“We may be in a bit of a demand lull heading into the July Fourth holiday,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Vice President of Public and Government Affairs, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Drivers are benefitting financially, with 20 gallons of gas costing nearly $30 less than last year. And with the cost for oil low, drivers will find pump prices that are flat or drifting slightly lower for now.”

And while gas prices are slightly higher, AAA Northeast’s June 20 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 2 cents lower than last week, when it was at $3.59, averaging $3.57 a gallon.

Comparatively, gas prices are currently lower than they were at this time last year, according to AAA.

On June 20, 2022, the average gas price in Massachusetts was $4.98 per gallon and nationally, $5.00 per gallon, according to AAA.
