DEDHAM, Mass. — A grand jury has issued 12 indictments against former Dedham Veterans Services Officer and town Parking Clerk William Aitken for allegedly stealing resources meant for veterans, stealing parking receipts, and other charges, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said.

Aitken, 54, of Dedham, faces the following indictments: 1 count larceny by false pretenses over $1,200; 4 counts of larceny by single scheme of $1,200 or less; 3 counts of larceny of $1,200 of less; 1 count of larceny of more than $1,200 1 count of Forgery; 1 count of Uttering a Forged Document; and 1 count of Municipal Employee receive/request compensation other than as provided by law.

These are direct indictments with no preceding district court activity, so no defense attorney for Aitken is known to the state at this time, Morrissey said.

Aitken is scheduled to be arraigned in Norfolk Superior court in Dedham at 2 p.m. on July 7.

“This has been a long and multi-layered investigation, working closely with Dedham Police detectives as Assistant District Attorney Phil Burr brought this matter through the grand jury process,” Morrissey said in a statement. “These allegations first emerged at the end of 2019, shortly before grand jury operations were suspended under COVID protocols, and the variety and scope of the allegations required extensive investigation. We thank the grand jurors for their diligence and service.”
