BOSTON — Former Boston city councilor and convicted felon Chuck Turner has died at the age of 78.
The prominent activist and Harvard grad was elected in 1999 to represent Roxbury, the city’s 7th district. He spent more than 10 years fighting for affordable housing and against gentrification.
In 2010, he was found guilty of lying to investigators and bribery for accepting $1,000 to push for a liquor license for a Roxbury nightclub. He was expelled from the city council and served more than two years in prison.
Turner maintained his innocence, insisting he was targeting.
Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted about Turner’s death saying he brought about “so much good for our city.”
Councilor Turner was a staunch advocate for the people of Boston, who over the course of his lifetime helped bring about so much good for our city.
