BOSTON — Firefighters responded to a multi-alarm blaze in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
At around 3 p.m., flames could be seen shooting out of a home on Thetford Street and a 2nd alarm was immediately ordered, according to the Boston Fire Department.
Officials say the blaze burned through the back porch of the building and extended inwards. A woman was trapped on the second floor and had to be rescued, according to firefighters on scene.
She was transported to a nearby hospital, where her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities are crediting a quick and aggressive attack by arriving companies to keep the fire contained to the rear of the home. Crews initially had trouble accessing the fire because there wasn’t a clear path to get to the back of the three-story home.
Nine people were displaced and the American Red Cross is assisting them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
