WORCESTER, Mass. — A large fire in Worcester has displaced nearly a dozen people.
Worcester fire crews responded to Blackstone River Road shortly before 6:30, Thursday evening, after receiving a call for thick smoke in the area. When crews arrived on scene they found fire tearing through the rear of the building.
Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire, but the building did sustain significant damage.
At least 10 people are displaced as a result of the fire, according to Worcester fire officials. The Red Cross has been called in to assist those individuals.
Worcester firefighters received early reports that there may have been a person trapped in the building, but that turned out not to be the case.
Two people are unaccounted for as of this time, according to Acting Deputy Chief Adam Roche, but it is believed they were not home when the fire started. Worcester firefighters searched the building six times, and did not locate anyone, according to Roche.
No one was injured in the fire.
