MAINE — “Vacationland” is more than deserving of its nickname, according to a new ranking.

The midcoast of Maine is one of the 15 best places to take a weekend trip, according to travel website ThePointsGuy.com.

Melanie Haiken, a writer with self-described “itchy feet” puts the coast of Maine in the same breath as Morro Bay, California and Hawaii’s Kauai Island.

The midcoast of Maine is home to a plethora of beaches and picturesque oceanside villages. Visitors can also catch festivals like Belfast’s Weinerfest and Rockland’s Lobster Festival.

“Drive Route 1, stopping at the string of tiny hamlets along the way, eating lobster at every stop,” writes Haiken. “The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is extraordinarily photogenic on its perch at the end of a causeway, but Maine has 64 more lighthouses to satisfy your camera after that.”

The 14 other camera-worthy destinations are as follows:

Cody, Wyoming

Morro Bay, California

Nashville, Tennessee

Bisbee, Arizona

Southern Oregon

New River Gorge, West Virginia

The Lost Sierra, California

Gunnison, Colorado, and the San Juan Mountains

Rhinebeck, New York

Fredericksburg, Texas

Mendocino County, California

Moab, Utah

North Shore, Kauai

Seward, Alaska
