Car fire damages 2 Malden homes, other vehicles

MALDEN, Mass. — A car sitting in a Malden driveway caught fire overnight, eventually burning out one home and melting the siding off of another.

The flames broke out on Hancock Road just after 2 a.m. Tuesday. The car went up in flames and it quickly spread to another car and then the house.

Two people inside the home got out safely. The fire was so intense that it also damaged the home next door.

Firefighters believe the fire started in one the cars in the driveway. Despite the raging flames, no one was injured.

A Malden building inspector has been called in to determine if the badly charred home is structurally safe or not.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
