NORTON, Mass. — On January 27, 2016, Julie Meede, a Norton mother of three, was fatally stabbed in her apartment in front of her children. Julie’s estranged husband, Martin McDonald, was arrested after crashing his pickup truck into another car on I-495.
According to investigators, McDonald told police, “I killed my wife.”
In January, it will be five years since Julie Meede’s murder and her husband’s arrest, but Martin McDonald still has not gone to trial.
“It’s been dragged out,” said Ashley Meede, Julie’s sister-in-law. “And to continue to do so is disgusting, there’s no words for it.”

But Martin McDonald has still not gone to trial. Julie's family is angry. My story tonight @boston25 6pm #truecrime pic.twitter.com/p8B30BV1wb
A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said defense issues with its own expert witness and scheduling of mental health evaluations have caused many delays. Right now, McDonald’s case is on the calendar for January 25, but it appears the COVID-19 pandemic will cause more delays.
For Julie’s family, the wait for justice is excruciating.
“He’s dragging it on and on and on. It’s like a never-ending nightmare,” said Brenda Meede, Julie’s mother. “I can’t get past it. We need closure.”
Julie Meede’s family is planning a vigil on the Norton town common on October 25 at 4 p.m.
“We’re doing it because we don’t ever want her to be forgotten,” Katie Meede, Julie’s sister, said. “We really want justice for her. It’s crazy it’s taking this long.”
“The day that he is put away and found guilty is a day the family can start healing,” Ashley Meede said. “Until then, everyone is constantly scared that he might come out of jail.”
