BPD announces sudden death of active duty K9

Boston Police announced Sunday that one of the four-legged members of the department has passed away suddenly.

According to BPD, Tyson, an active-duty K9, died at the age of six years old after serving the Boston Police department for five years.

Tyson served as a dual-purpose Firearms and Explosive detection K9.

“Tyson was responsible for numerous high-priority arrests, recovered firearms and protective sweeps during his time with the BPD, having a direct impact on the safety of our great city,” said Boston Police in a statement. “Our thoughts go out to his handler at this difficult time, as well as his wife and children, who had come to know Tyson as a protector and a member of their family.”
