The Bourne Police Department held a canine blood drive in honor of Sargeant Sean Gannon and his K9 partner Nero to help mark the five-year anniversary of their deaths in the line of duty.
They wanted to raise awareness about the shortage of blood donations for dogs.
Gannon’s parents were in attendance they say while it’s a sad day, this event shows how people are using it for good.
“It’s turned into an explosive day of goodness,” remarked Denise Gannon. “All the initiatives that have happened since his death but today is unbelievable. Sean would be all about this. This is a wonderful day to commemorate him.”
Gannon, 32, was shot and killed by Thomas Latanowich while serving a warrant at a Marston Mills home back on April 12, 2018. His K9 partner, Nero, was also seriously injured.
Last September, former Governor Charlie Naker signed Nero’s Law, which requires training to provide emergency first aid to k-9s injured at a scene.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
