Boston school employee hospitalized after allegedly being assaulted by student, officials say

BOSTON — A Boston Public Schools student is facing possible charges after officials say they assaulted a school employee on Tuesday morning.

A fight broke out between a student and staff member in the cafeteria at the Henderson Inclusion School in Dorchester which multiple students witnessed, according to a statement from the school.

“All I saw was the teacher you know holding them in the chokehold and throwing one punch because he was trying to break up an altercation between a group of students,” said a teen who witnessed the altercation.

School officials say the staff member was trying to break up a fight between a couple of students when one of those students assaulted the staff member and as a result, was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

“It’s a recurring problem at this school,” a student tells Boston 25.

Just last year another Henderson School student was charged with attacking the principal in 2021, after knocking her unconscious and sending her to the hospital.

“It affects us as students as well who don’t do things like that – because you know – rules get heightened and you know we lose privileges,” says a student.

The student involved will face disciplinary action in accordance with the BPS Code of Conduct, additional disciplinary action from law enforcement is also possible.

“The Henderson and all Boston Public Schools are committed to fostering environments where all students and staff feel safe, welcome, and respected,” school officials said in a statement to families. “We are sharing this important update with you as part of our commitment to open communication and transparency. Please know the safety and security of all students and staff is one of our most important priorities.”

The incident remains under investigation.
