Assisted living facility evacuated in Sudbury following severe weather

SUDBURY, Mass. — A nursing home in Sudbury evacuated 78 residents on Thursday night because of flooding. No injuries were reported.

The evacuation occurred after rain and storms soaked much of New England on Thursday. The Bear Mountain Nursing Home, located on Boston Post Road in the town, transported all its residents to new locations. The evacuation was completed just before 8:30 p.m.

Several area fire departments responded to help.

The Sudbury Fire Chief said the roof of the home is in the process of being replaced. The roof and ceiling at the facility suffered significant damage during the severe weather, the department said.

When the storm rolled in, water started to pour into the building, affecting major areas like the electrical room and making it uninhabitable.
