LEBANON, N.H. — Three people were stranded on the roof of their residence as a fire broke out on Thursday night.
The Lebanon Fire Department says they were alerted to a fire in a second-floor apartment on Mechanic Street just before 11 p.m. The 911 caller claimed three people evacuated the building but were stuck on the roof.
Responding crews were on the scene within a minute and found the outside stairway was fully engulfed in flames, cutting off the stranded residents’ escape route, according to authorities.
Using a nearby vehicle, police officers at the scene climbed on the roof of the car and rescued the stranded residents.
The fire was eventually extinguished and although the damage to the building was significant, there were no reports of any injuries.
“These heroic actions reflect the unwavering commitment of Lebanon’s First Responders in protecting the lives of residents in critical situations,” a police department spokesperson wrote in a press release. “Additionally, this event demonstrates the strong partnership and camaraderie between the Lebanon Police Department and the Lebanon Fire Department. By working seamlessly together in times of crisis, these agencies exemplify a unified commitment to public safety and the well-being of the City of Lebanon.”
