2 elderly women killed in Needham crash

NEEDHAM, Mass. — Two elderly women who were passengers in a car died after the car crashed into a house on Central Avenue in Needham on Wednesday morning, police said.

Police identified the victims as Ann Segal, 89, and Claire Van Ummersen, 86, both of Needham. They were sent to a local hospital but later died.

The 2009 BMW involved was apparently traveling down North Hill Ave when it crossed Central Avenue, left the roadway, and crashed into a house at 860 Central Ave. Needham Police and Fire personnel were notified at approximately 10:20 a.m.

And no charges have been filed against the 89-year-old driver, a Needham man who was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Needham Police, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Team are investigating this crash.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
