2 dogs shot by Boston police, 1 killed after officer is attacked

BOSTON — Police in Boston shot two dogs, one fatally, after an officer was attacked while attempting to arrest a wanted man on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers executed warrants at 28 Michigan Avenue in Mattapan just after 1:30 p.m. and placed a wanted suspect in custody before encountering two dogs inside the home, according to the Boston Police Department.

One officer was attacked by the two dogs and bitten, police said. A second officer discharged their weapon and struck both animals.

The officer who was bitten and the officer who fired at the dogs were both taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the dogs was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no immediate word on the extent of the other dog’s wounds.

Video from the scene shows dozens of police cruisers and investigators responding to the incident.

No other people were injured.

There was no word on the breed of the dogs involved in the attack.

The investigation remains ongoing.
