2 in custody after double shooting outside Brockton District Court

BROCKTON, Mass — Two people are in custody after a brazen daylight shooting outside Brockton District Court left two people injured on Monday afternoon.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting at 215 Main Street around 12:30 p.m. found a man and woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Brockton Police Department.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There was no immediate word on the man’s condition.

After shots rang out, area buildings and businesses went into a “stay-in-place” mode out of an abundance of caution.

Investigators ultimately took two people into custody and recovered a gun.

In a statement, officials said, “The Brockton Police Department would like to assure the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. This incident appears to be an isolated event, and we are diligently working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.

An investigation remains ongoing.
