18-year-old dead after stabbing in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Police are investigating a homicide involving a stabbing incident that occurred Tuesday morning that has left an 18-year-old man dead.

The Bristol District Attorney’s office told Boston 25 the incident occurred at New Bedford’s Clasky Common Park at approximately 1:24 a.m. when an unidentified female attempted to gain the attention of a Massachusetts State Police trooper assigned to the Dartmouth Barracks.

The female advised the trooper of a male lying unresponsive in the park. Shortly after, the trooper was able to find the victim lying and suffering from multiple stab wounds. The trooper requested immediate medical assistance via his portable radio and an ambulance from New Bedford EMS was dispatched to the scene.

The victim was later transported to the emergency department of Saint Luke’s Hospital for further life-saving measures but was later declared deceased at 2:02 a.nm. The identity has yet to be released as officials continue to contact the victim’s next of kin.

The stabbing incident is currently under investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office, New Bedford Police, and Homicide Unit prosecutors.
