BOSTON — Boston Police say a 16-year-old girl was killed in a triple shooting in Dorchester on Sunday.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office identified the girl as Jucelena Gomes.
This was the first murder of the new year in the City of Boston.
“The loss of a loved one to violence is one of the most traumatic events an individual and family can ever experience,” said District Attorney Rachael Rollins. “No one should have to go through that. The murder of a child, who has not yet had the opportunity to grow and achieve, is a unique kind of pain.”
Rollins said members of her office’s Victim Witness Assistance Program will be available to Gomes’ family and to the families of the two surviving victims
Police say officers responded to a 911 call for a person shot in the area of 551 Washington Street in Dorchester around 6:25 p.m.
When they arrived, they found the girl suffering from gunshot wounds. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
Two other victims, both male, suffered non-life threatening injuries, say police. One of them is also a teenager.
“Violence has no place in Suffolk County. We will hold those who would commit acts of violence accountable. We are actively looking for the individual or individuals responsible for this shooting and theft of a beautiful life.” said Rollins
