One dog was rescued by firefighters.
Fire investigators said a tenant saw the fire through a light fixture and immediately reported it.
“Things might have been different if that tenant wasn’t home and made that report because by the time our first companies arrived, there was extensive damage in the walls and ceiling,” said Boston Fire Chief Mike McCormack
Firefighters encountered a frozen hydrant and called a 2nd alarm out of caution.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
