10 displaced in Lynn house fire

LYNN, Mass. — It took nearly two full hours to gain control of a stubborn house fire that overwhelmed a multi-family home in Lynn.

Fire crews were called to 11 Seymour Avenue around 9 a.m. Friday, according to Fire Chief Stephen Archer.

When firefighters got to Seymour Avenue, there was heavy smoke and fire throughout the building, Archer said.

All of the people living at the home were able to safely escape, and two cats were rescued witnesses and firefighters said.

“Thank God everyone is fine,” said Quendia Martinez, whose aunt lived on the first floor.

While firefighters were inside, conditions were deteriorating inside the building to the point where Archer says crews had to be pulled out of the structure.

Firefighters who were inside to battle the fire were ordered out of the building, Archer explained.

Archer said there was a thick wire mesh inside the walls that made entry difficult, as they tried to rip the mesh down, the fire was scaling the walls.

The building’s owner tells Boston 25 News ten people lived in the three-floor apartment building.

By 11 a.m. the fire was under control.

Still, this was an awful day for Martinez’s family and two other families living at the Seymour Avenue apartment building.

“We are in a very bad time with the pandemic, and now this,” Martinez said.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, no determination has been made.
