METHUEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A local teen needs a life-saving transplant and an event on Sunday may save her life.
Thirteen-year-old Samira Sarkis and her sister suffer from sickle cell disease. However, Samira's condition has escalated to critical. As a young teen, she's had two strokes and is forced to have monthly blood transfusions to prevent them in the future.
A bone marrow transplant will cure the teen, but she has yet to find a match. The Lawrence family is asking for people to be screened at an event Sunday at St. Basil's Church located at 30 East St. in Methuen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A simple cheek swab is all they need to see if you are a match.
For more information on the event, contact Samira's cousin Magi Swenson at 978-935-8297 or her parents Tony and Angie at 978-764-2836 or visit BeTheMatch.org.
