Local Sears store announces closing

In this May 14, 2012 file photo, shoppers walk into Sears in Peabody, Mass. Sears is looking to raise more cash, announcing Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, that it is planning a rights offering that may raise up to $625 million.

DEDHAM, Mass. — A local Sears store is closing.

The Sears located in Dedham on Providence Hwy will be closing, according to an advertisement posted in Friday’s Boston Globe. The ad does not say when the store will close.

This comes just months after Sears announced it will be closing more than 40 locations. The Dedham location was not on that initial list.

Last month, the parent company of Sears, Sears Holdings, said that it had serious doubts on its survival, but Sears isn’t the only brick-and-mortar store struggling. Payless, Macy’s, JC Penney and nearly a dozen other retailers have recently announced store closings for 2017 due to an increase in online shopping.
