Police warn of serial stalker targeting local athletes

WINDHAM, N.H. — Youth sports organizations across New England are warning players about an alleged stalker targeting young athletes.

Windham Police Detective Nick Eddy - who is also a coach at Salem, N.H. High School - reported 36-year-old Robert Slye has a history of stalking area wrestlers dating back more than a decade.

Slye has allegedly been using Facebook to pose as a 21-year-old woman to obtain pictures of wrestlers, Eddy said, even going as far as arranging to meet a wrestler at the Topsfield Fair earlier this year.

“The communications may have been inappropriate, but they weren't criminal in nature. We contacted that person and asked them to stop communicating with that student athlete and any other within Windham, and since the we have closed the investigation," Windham Police Captain Michael Caron said.

The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) and its Massachusetts counterpart (MIAA) have both sent warnings to coaches, athletes and families about the allegations against Slye.

“It is important to note that investigators have found Massachusetts student-athletes among those who Mr. Slye may have attempted to contact through an alias Facebook account,” the MIAA notification said.

Boston 25 News went to Slye's home, but he would not answer questions.
