Leominster native in critical condition after Orlando nightclub shooting

LEOMINSTER, Mass. — A few dozen people gathered at the Fitchburg Upper Common Monday to honor all of the victims of the attack in Orlando. Pictures from the vigil show attendees specifically kept one local in their thoughts as well -- Jeffrey Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was born and raised in nearby Leominster before moving to Orlando.

Rodriguez's half-brother, Santos, told the Sentinel & Enterprise he missed a call from 37-year-old Jeff early Sunday morning. Jeff then texted Santos, telling him he was inside Pulse night club and had been shot. He said he was bleeding and thought he was dying. Jeff told Santos to tell everyone he loved them.

Jeff's step-mother told the Washington Post that Jeff was among the 15 people who hid from the gunman in a restroom. His mother said Jeff's life was saved by a friend who happened to be a physician's assistant and was able to tend to his wounds.

Santos told FOX25 Tuesday that Jeff was still in critical condition but was able to speak.
