Massive fire breaks out at Worcester truck dealership

WORCESTER, Mass. — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a massive fire at a truck dealership in Worcester.

Flames broke out around 8 p.m. at the Dario Diesel Truck Center on Route 20. By 8:30 p.m., a third alarm had been struck for assistance.

Witnesses at the scene reported hearing popping noises from inside the building and large flames afterward.

“The flames were at least, I would say, 50 feet above the building. There were a few little explosions that happened, which gave it a little more energy,” Steve Christy, the owner of a neighboring business, said.

Fire crews were able to get the main body of the fire extinguished by 11 p.m., but remained on the scene overnight to keep an eye on hot spots.

According to first responders, there were no injuries reported. At one point, firefighters told residents in Worcester to close their windows to keep the toxic smoke out of their homes.

Part of Route 20 was shut down for hours, but was reopened by early Tuesday morning.
