LANCASTER, mass. — The scene at Bob’s Turkey Farm Wednesday still seems unreal to the owners.
In June, a fire killed 7,000 turkeys and they thought about pulling the plug on the family-run business.
“We weren't sure what we were going to do at that point,” said Sue Miner, Bob’s Turkey Farm owner.
The farm has been supplying fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving since the 1950s, but they weren’t sure if they could recover from the fire. They didn’t anticipate the community’s support, and that’s what made all the difference.
People began offering support, and soon it turned a fundraiser, with thousands of dollars pouring in.
Bob's was able to cut their losses of 7,000 turkeys in half and their loyal customers made it clear Thursday they're thankful.
“It was very exciting. It's really packed in there. People are taking pictures. It's obviously everyone is really happy they are back in business,” said customer Adriana Bobinchock.
“It's fantastic. I love small business. I think we keep America going this way. That's the big thing. We can all buy frozen turkeys but it's nothing like buying them from here,” said Mike Poirier, a customer.
Bob’s is putting the finishing touches on the new barn and they are expecting to have a full stock of turkeys next year.
