MILTON, Mass. — A judge has allowed the dismissal of child rape charges against a former Milton Academy teacher.
Reynold Buono, 72, had been returned to the U.S. from Thailand in 2018 to face child rape charges involving one former student. But a judge has allowed for those charges to be dismissed, the Norfolk District Attorney's office said.
The court allowed the defense motion to dismiss on Dec. 26, 2018. The district attorney's office is "examining the options of requesting reconsideration or possibly asking the judge to report the issue to the Appeals Court," said David Traub, spokesman for Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.
While the motion to dismissed remains at this time, Judge Thomas Connors set a Jan. 28 date to further explore the issues, Traub said.
“We appreciate the judge’s willingness to grant the Commonwealth additional time to present information on this important issue," Traub said.
Buono left Milton Academy in 1987 and had been living in southeast Asia for a number of years.
