WASHINGTON — A Milford mother whose son was killed by a person living in the country illegally was in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to advocate for border security.
Maureen Maloney has been outspoken ever since her son Matthew Denice was killed in 2011 at 23 years old.
- Suspect in Milford death ruled incompetent
- Gunman found guilty of manslaughter in dragging death of Milford motorcyclist
One by one, women from across the country stood next to the steps of the Capitol; moms, sisters, and wives, all who have lost a loved one and all there with a common message.
"We have to secure the borders."
Among the group called 'Women for Trump' was Maureen Maloney. She wants President Donald Trump to stand firm on his request for the full $5.7 billion for the border wall.
"All these people had dreams and all these deaths were preventable. If the government had done their job and secured our borders years ago, there would be thousands of more people alive," said Maloney.
Also in Washington Wednesday was Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson who echoed the concerns, saying Massachusetts has the seventh highest overdose rate in the U.S. and he blames illegal immigrants for bringing the drugs here, and lawmakers not doing enough.
Maloney said she was trying to speak with Democratic leaders in Washington. She says they need to hear their stories and listen.
