Prison guard arrested after alleged sexual conduct with inmate

BOSTON — A Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department officer has been arrested for alleged on-duty misconduct.

FOX25 has learned the officer, 29-year-old Marlon Juba, is a guard at the South Bay House of Correction and has been arrested for alleged sexual conduct with a female inmate.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department sent out a statement saying that an officer had been suspended after internal and external investigations.

"The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department has zero tolerance for staff misconduct and the suspected officer was relieved of duty and barred from the facility,” Suffolk County Sheriff Superintendent Yolanda Smith said. "Suffolk County Sheriff's Department is deeply committed to the safety and proper custody of all inmates and detainees."

A neighbor said investigators kicked down the door of Juba's second floor apartment inside a building on Lewis Street around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

Juba appeared in court Thursday on smuggling and sex charges. He's accused of sneaking in drugs, phones and food to inmates at the South Bay House of Correction.

Evidence in the case includes surveillance video, which prosecutors say shows him entering a female inmate's cell at 3 a.m.

Prosecutors say he remained in the cell for 16 minutes before leaving the cell with his belt buckle apparently undone.

During the search of Juba's home, which he shares with his wife and young son, officials say they found a sexually explicit note he wrote to the female inmate.

Juba's attorney says he is an exemplary officer and a good father. He told FOX25 the allegations have been concocted by people who should not be trusted.
