Hopedale man faces charges after police find pot, weapons, grenades in home

HOPEDALE, Mass. — Hopedale police made a surprising discovery inside a man’s home while they were investigations reports of gunfire in the area.

“Well, we heard what we thought were some fireworks,” a homeowner, who didn’t want to be identified, said.

The incident unfolded Saturday afternoon when neighbors called police to report hearing gunshots.

They said the shots were being fired at 39 Highland Rd., the home of Edward Fitzgerald.
When police arrived at the home they said they were concerned someone was injured and started to search inside.

While searching the home they said they found numerous marijuana plants being grown. One the second floor, police said they found a man passed out in his bed with weapons on him and throughout the home.

“He had a loaded revolver in his right hand,” police told Boston 25 News. “There were also grenades and large caliber rounds.”

Police said Fitzgerald had been shooting through the walls of his bedroom. Police also called

Fitzgerald a career criminal and said he didn’t have a license to own weapons.

Fitzgerald faces a list of charges and is due in court on Wednesday.
