HOLLISTON, Mass. — The show must go on, and while a carnival accident in Ohio left one person dead and several more injured – here in Massachusetts festival fans are still going to enjoy the fun.

In Holliston, the Lion’s Club Carnival is underway for the 55th time and in all of that time there haven’t been any problems.

Carnival manager Dan Tibbetts says the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety is on scene as everything comes together.

“They bring three or four men out here... they spend the entire day out here... and they go through everything,” he said.

The carnival conducts daily inspections, as well - and after what happened in Ohio those inspections have become more painstaking.

“We just had a meeting with the boys because of the incident in Ohio... and told them those things shouldn't happen,” Tibbets said.

Industry statistics estimate 375 million north Americans visit amusement parks each year, and a 2013 study found that in a recent 20-year span about 93,000 children sought emergency department care for ride-related injuries. Just 1.5 percent of those required hospitalization, showing just how rare accidents like that happened in Ohio rare.

“Just a tragic accident. I don't know how else to describe it,” Tibbets said.
