Labor Day sales crowded Wrentham Outlets this holiday weekend

WRENTHAM, Mass. — A Labor Day weekend sale crowded Wrentham Outlet during the holiday.

The traffic was backed up on the 495 off ramp at several points. The outlets have been fairly quiet since the pandemic started but a Labor Day weekend sale changed that. Divontee Copeland’s mother was shopping at the outlets on Saturday.

“As soon as she got there she said it was packed," said Copeland. “There was no room. She could barely find anywhere to park.”

Wrentham Police work closely with the outlets on all aspects of safety including the virus protocols. Chief Bill McGrath says he was at the outlets all weekend working and saw people spacing out and wearing masks when needed.

“People are well versed on social distancing or physical distancing and they make every effort to keep that distance," said Chief McGrath.

Some people complained on social media and called Boston 25 saying the outlets were too crowded during a pandemic. The outlets say they have strict protocols for store capacity and they have associates counting customers at the doors.

Shoppers today telling us they feel safety shopping at Wrentham because it is primarily outdoors.

“The easiness of it being outdoors and makes it a little more comfortable I would say,” said Denise Labossiere, of Holliston.

As far as the traffic goes, Chief McGrath says, “I think people have to get reacquainted with the word traffic. And sometimes you have to have another word called ‘patience.'"
