BOSTON — Two states, one street.
Salon Vitale on South Broadway in Salem sits just across the New Hampshire border, but they got to celebrating a slow first day back Monday.
“We were really cautious,” said owner Darcie Dubois. “I only had one customer in at a time and just sanitized everywhere after they left.”
Still, even that’s better than what’s happening up the street on the other side of the border.
“I feel bad,” said Dubois. “I have a friend who has a salon in Methuen and she cannot open yet.”
“It’s just frustrating if anything honestly,” that friend Michelle Desrochers said. Her shop Creative Hair has been closed since March 21.
“We were supposed to come back two weeks later which would’ve been fine and then they did a month later which is when it began getting stressful,” said Desrochers.
Even with Governor Baker’s 4-phased reopening plan, she still doesn’t know when she’ll reopen.
“I’m hoping we will be included in phase 1 but nothing is specific to us so far,” said Desrochers. “I almost want to get my New Hampshire license just to say I apply for it and I can work in New Hampshire. I have not got any loans or any grants that have been given or anything else that’s been put out there. I’ve applied for everything but nothing’s been given. It’s a little stressful.”
