FRANCE (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The French are in mourning after last week's Paris terrorist attacks, but a four-legged gift from Russia is sure to warm their hearts.
During a French intelligence raid for the culprit behind last week's terror attacks, French police lost Diesel, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, that was part of their anti-terrorism unit.
According to Sputnik News, Diesel was sent in to scope the apartment where the suspect was believed to be hiding before police moved in. The dog died when a woman detonated an explosive bomb vest strapped to her during the raid.
On Friday, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced it sent French police a German Shepherd puppy named Dobrynya to show their solidarity with the French people and have the puppy become trained to replace Diesel in the French police anti-terrorism unit.
Elena Alekseeva, the spokesperson for the Ministry, posted a photo of the puppy with the announcement on Instagram.
Dobrynya is a popular folk hero in Russian culture, according to Sputnik News.
