What a sight Sunday across southeast Mass. to Cape Cod! Did you see it? If you looked up at the sun Sunday afternoon, there was a full rainbow ring around it, otherwise known as a sun halo.
The sun halo is a common phenomenon that occurs when high thin clouds (cirrostratus clouds) are present. Sunlight refracts through the ice crystals at a 22 degree angle in the clouds to cause the effect. It's not something you see every day, but it does happen.
A lot of people were buzzing about this on the Cape Sunday afternoon. If you saw it and took a picture, share it with us at pix@myfoxboston.com.
