Rob Gronkowski announces partnership with CBD company

While former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is no longer on the football field, he’s still seeing green.

The three-time Super Bowl champion announced Tuesday that he has partnered with Abacus Health Products, a company that makes over-the-counter products with CBD. He said he wants to see National Football League players be able to use CBD products for pain and recovery.

During his nine-year NFL career, Gronk said he had countless injuries and nine surgeries. He pushed himself through recoveries but said he was in near constant pain and needed to make a change.

“I decided to walk away from the game for one main reason, I had to recover,” Gronkowski said during a news conference Tuesday morning.

He said he was hurt both mentally and physically from the wear and tear of professional football and that once he retired he looked for better and more natural ways to recover.

That's when his father told him about CBDMEDIC and for Gronk it was a game-changer. He said he wished he knew of the product during his playing days and that it probably could have helped him.

“It would have made a huge difference for me while I was playing during my career, I believe,” Gronk said. “That’s why I’m advocating for CBD to be acceptable for all players to be used for recovery.”

He said his mind and soul is telling him that he needs time off from football. But, one day he could return from the sideline.

“When I feel like my body is top-notch, my soul, my mind mentally and physically I’m ready, then I would go back to the NFL… if I ever get to that point,” Gronk said.

Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD does not get users high, it’s nonaddictive, and it has a low risk of side effects.

Overall, research suggests that CBD has few side effects, especially compared to powerful prescription medications. Still, little is known about the risks of taking CBD long term, so it should be used cautiously.

Gronk credited Pats QB Tom Brady with passing along healthy habits and said he’s excited to share his new venture with his old friend.
