BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Former Boston Mayor Tom Menino's arrangements were announced Thursday evening after the 71-year-old lost his battle with cancer.
Menino was the city's longest serving mayor, in office from 1993 to 2014. Before running the city, the Boston native was a member and president of the Boston City Council. He shaped Boston's economy and had a love for the city like no other, as it was centered around Bostonians, young and old. He loved his constituents almost as much as they adored him.
Menino was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, just after leaving his position as mayor. His final moments were spent at Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston and his body was at a West Roxbury funeral home Thursday evening.
He will lie in state at Faneuil Hall Sunday at 10 a.m. and the public is welcome. There will also be a private Mass at noon on Monday in Hyde Park at the Most Precious Blood Parish.
A prayer service was held for Menino at Mattapan Morning Star Baptist Church as well as the Charles St. A.M.E Church Thursday evening. Thousands sent their condolences for the beloved mayor, including President Obama and the First Lady.
