Fire causes heavy damage at Kingston restaurant

KINGSTON, Mass. — Flames caused heavy damage to a popular Italian restaurant on the South Shore.

Carmela's Restaurant on Main Street in Kingston caught fire Wednesday night. The windows and walls were blown out and everything inside was charred.

People were inside the restaurant having dinner when the fire broke out, but everyone did get out safely.

Firefighters say the family-owned restaurant is a town favorite.

and said they don't know the full extent of the damage, but they will let their customers know as soon as they get more information. More than one hundred people posted comments of support in less than three hours.

In a statement released to FOX25, Carmela's thanked everyone for the outpouring of support and said they were extremely grateful everyone was okay.

At this time, we still do not have any details to report in regards to the fire. However, we would like to give our most sincere thanks to the Fire Department, First Responders, and Neighbors who supplied everybody on scene with water to keep hydrated and coats to keep warm. Last but not least, we would also like to thank our community for the incredible outpouring of support. We are extremely grateful that everybody is okay and we will be issuing updates as more information becomes available. Thank You.
