FBI bulletin warns of more potential armed protests ahead of Biden inauguration

WASHINGTON D.C. — An internal FBI bulletin warns that armed nationwide protests may start later this week at all 50 state capitols and the U.S. Capitol and continue thru Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Bob Kinder is a former military counter-terrorism expert; He now runs Signal 88 Security in Boston.

“It’s frightening, to put it frank. The intelligence community and the FBI take this threat seriously. This is credible,” Kinder said.

Thousands of tips were found online, said military analyst James Gagliano.

“They’re going through and following up in some of these chat rooms and places where extremists tend to coalesce,” Gagliano said.

In a statement the FBI told Boston 25 News that: “The FBI Boston division is not in possession of any intelligence indicating any planned, armed protests at the four state capitals in our area of responsibility. (ME, MA, NH, and RI) from January 17-20, 2021.”

Kinder said political leaders need to diffuse this threat now.

“Our political leadership on both sides of the aisle needs to shake hands and prevent this before it ever comes to armed people in front of our capitols.”

Massachusetts State Police put out a statement that said, in part, “As in all cases of protest activity, protection of lives and property and preservation of the right of lawful assembly are our objectives.”

State Police said they will be prepared to protect those rights.
