CONWAY, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- We don't know exactly what happened to her, but the family of Abby Hernandez say it is a miracle she survived.
The family released a new statement, thanking New Hampshire police and asking for privacy as the teen recovers from "unspeakable acts of violence." The statement, released on behalf of Abby and her mother, Zenya, says she wants time and space to heal both physically and emotionally.
"As the justice system moves forward, and the evidence is revealed, questions about this horrific event will be answered," reads the statement in-part. "Abby was violently abducted by a stranger. For many months, she suffered numerous acts of unspeakable violence. Through her faith, fortitude and resilience, she is alive today and home with her family."
Nathaniel Kibby, 34, is charged with kidnapping Hernandez. He is being held on $1 million cash bail. Investigators allege Hernandez was confined for a period of time at Kibby's mobile home.
A judge ordered the state not to move the mobile home or a shipping container behind it. Prosecutors reportedly want to haul both items away and put them in storage. The judge also told officials to maintain any notes and recordings related to the case. Medical providers were asked to preserve the teen's medical records.
Hernandez disappeared after leaving Kennett High School on October 9, 2013. She returned home in July.
